A nurture group is a small supportive class of up to 10 children.
It provides a secure, predictable place where the different developmental needs of each child can be addressed. Effective early intervention is recognised as having longer-term benefits to children's learning. Nurture Groups help children establish good relationships with adults and see school as a place where they can be successful.
At our school, Mrs Yardley and Mrs Green run the Nurture Group four afternoons a week. They focus on emotional and social development as well as academic progress. Each Wednesday, parents are invited to come and share an activity with their child and have a cup of coffee or tea at the same time!

Children love coming to Big Club (the children's name for Nurture Group).
We have to restrict numbers attending the group so that we can give the children the attention that they need. We expect that most children need 2-4 terms in the Nurture Group for four afternoons each week.
Each week we follow a structured timetable. We develop children's skills through fun activities such as literacy and numeracy, art, crafts, cooking and play skills.
We always end the session with a drink and a snack in the dining area.
We also celebrate birthdays and love to have visitors come and join us! |
